Avatar: The Last Airbender was created by television producers Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko in the Spring of 2002. The animated children's TV series is a hand drawn 2D creation produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios and debuted on Nickelodeon in 2005. The series is actually presented in book format with each episode serving as a "chapter" and each individual season as a "book" in the series. The show is targeted toward 6 to 11 year old children.
Avatar's world is very Asian influenced with martial arts and supernatural manipulation of the elements despite the fact that it is an American creation. Aang is the hero of the program and fights with his friends against Fire Nation.
Trivia: Originally the idea was of a middle-aged, balding man rather than a boy bison shepherd. Feel free to look around a bit.
